There is one bible passage that always crops up when the days get tough. This verse got me through GCSE exams, A level exams, it got me through my degree and some tricky days, once upon a time, at the office and now it helps me get through some of those thankless stay-at-home-mum days. It will forever be etched into my memory in the immortal song of good old ‘Ishmael’. Me and my sisters were avid fans and had piles of his cassette tapes. His jolly tones accompanying us even on a rather long car journey from London to Fort William- a trip never forgotten by my parents and our designated driver!
When I’m feeling low about how my day is panning out- all the jobs I have done that have gone unnoticed or while taking the full force of a 4 year olds tantrum I sing these words in my head…
“Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart,
Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart,
Then you’ll agree,
It’s like working for the Lord and not for men. “
Sometimes we can feel like our lives are miles away from looking like worship. The thing is Jesus knows life can be mundane and ‘average’, even tough but when we put our heads down, persevere with a faithful heart, and just get on with things he accepts it as a good and pleasing offering.
