So every Friday I am going to give you a 5 minute worship idea to do as part of your quiet time, family worship or at some point during your day. Maybe take 5 while eating your lunch in the car, or while the baby has a nap. Wherever, whenever if we put time aside Jesus joins us! This one uses fruit, yes that’s right peel-able fruit…For individuals
You will need some peely fruit, satsumas are ideal why not put one in your lunchbox and do this at work to bring Jesus right into the middle of your day. This is a chance to make some space and acknowledge all those things we build up around us that stop Jesus getting close. As you listen to this song start peeling the satsuma (or banana) and as you do ask forgiveness, and then when you reach the juicy segments, eat them thankful for all that you have in your life, ask Jesus to sustain you. Click on the links below to listen.
If you can’t listen to the song on your phone or laptop read Psalm 55:22
Cast all your cares on the Lord
He will sustain you.
Spend time getting them to talk about the things that build up a ‘hard skin’ around their hearts that stops Jesus getting close to them. Then maybe get them to peel the orange with these things in mind. Then you could get them to eat the orange and as they eat the segments ask Jesus to fill them with the different fruits of the spirit. My baby girl really enjoyed simply doing this: She had a satsuma at snack time yesterday and I let her peel it. As she peeled it we said sorry to Jesus for different things, and as she ate the segments she said thank you to Jesus for other things.
This activity works really well with a few different passages of scripture: the beattitudes, the fruits of the spirit, and the promises of God found throughout the bible to name a few. Maybe do a bible study around one of these themes and in response to discussing the word why not ‘eat’ it. Peel away the things that stop us living out the word of god, and then eat the truth you have studied in the passage.
