Advent calendars don’t just have to be about chocolate and sweets. My girls and I have had great fun with this simple idea the last few years and I hope you find it useful too!
In the run up to Christmas we often get lost in the busyness, shopping, preparation and planning for the ‘big day’ which is all too often gone before we’ve had a chance to take it in. This advent calendar I hope helps to emphasise the sense of wonder and anticipation of Mary, the shepherds, kings and angels as they waited patiently with hope and expectation for the arrival of Jesus. The activities try to bring out the true spirit of the season through storytelling, family time, getting creative, encouraging acts of kindness and giving.
I have created some simple activity cards for you to print off. Each of the 24 days in the run up to Christmas can be assigned an activity. I tend to put each one into a numbered envelope and as it ‘lands’ on the doormat every morning my little ones run to open it and find out what special activity they will be doing that day. On a practical note I have not pre-numbered the cards so that you can choose which activities suit your family week and routine and assign them according to your own calendar!
